Who is our Support Groups for?
These small groups are for pregnant and postpartum women who believe they may be suffering from depression, anxiety or other emotional, mental or behavioral difficulties. Fathers and adoptive parents may also develop one of these conditions. They are welcome in our group, as well. We will provide them with resources specific to their circumstances.
Anyone who has been diagnosed with prenatal or postpartum depression, anxiety or other conditions will benefit from coming to our groups. If she is on medication or in individual treatment, attending our support groups will be an excellent adjunct to those treatment options.
It is common for women to come to our support groups in their quest to find out why they are not feeling right. They often wonder whether they have one of the above conditions. By completing a standardized questionnaire, participants can be screened for prenatal and postpartum depression and anxiety disorders. Talking about their concerns in the group will further enable them to explore their difficulties and to receive proper guidance. If requested, they can get treatment recommendations and/or referrals to professionals in the area who specialize in working with pregnant and postpartum women.
Many participants who otherwise do not like group experiences say that being in the company of others at the same stage of life makes them feel less isolated and more connected. Hearing other moms talk about their "bad days" or sleepless nights can be a powerful first step in the healing experience. Our groups are very small, often we have just 2-3 moms present. This setting provides a highly intimate and laid back environment where you can relax, bring your baby if you'd like, and connect with others. We would love to have you.
